Uplifting the Leeds Community - A Busy 2024 and an Exciting Start to 2025
PUBLISHED: 29/01/2025
December was such a busy yet wonderful month for us, filled with so many experiences we truly cherished. We poured our hearts into giving back to the community and loved looking back on these memories.
Most importantly, we’re incredibly grateful for our fantastic team, who went above and beyond during the festive season, keeping homes, streets and buildings clear. A big thank you to the wonderful communities that trusted us.
A Warm Collaboration with Sue Ryder Charity
Have you ever wondered what happens to Christmas trees once the festive season ends? The unfortunate truth is that they are chucked faster than they’re brought in. Statistics reveal that between 6 and 8 million Christmas trees are tossed out in January.
This is where Sue Ryder and our team step in! We aim to keep the streets of Leeds and Bradford tidy, particularly after the holiday season, through treecycling. As part of their fundraising efforts, we volunteered to collect Christmas trees from designated postcodes.
Between January 9th and January 14th 2025, our vans travelled through neighbourhoods to pick up pre-registered trees. We then chopped these trees and recycled them for use in local parks, woodlands or as biofuel.
In the previous year (2023), the treecycling initiative saved 7,199 trees from going to the landfill and raised over £12,500, which funded 1,000 home visits. Along with keeping our streets clean, they also organised a fundraiser this year. By donating, you helped Sue Ryder’s medical staff support families in need of end-of-life care.
They supported us during a challenging time when we lost a close family member, and we’re grateful for their support. It brings us joy to be part of such an important cause. Together, we can create a strong community while caring for our environment.
Brightening the Community with Meanwood Lights
Meanwood Lights is an annual event organised by Meanwoon Matters in the final week of November. It draws significant crowds, with locals coming to enjoy the lights while small businesses brighten the festive atmosphere with their delightful collections.
On November 22nd, 2024, we truly warmed our way into the hearts of the residents! We ensured that the event was not only spotless but also safe for everyone. We tidied up the confetti and other waste left behind by the attendees. Our vans also served as barricades, helping to keep the locals safe while they enjoyed all the fun activities.
Dashing Through the Winds
December was the month of storms! But wind and rain can’t hold us back from doing our important work! We braved the weather with our reindeer to make sure your waste was handled properly.
